These women make me cry - leadership during the apocalypse.

I have never seen myself as a leader, and definitely never envisioned myself writing an article about leadership. Still, having had the privilege of leading Women in Tech - Gothenburg together with a remarkable group of women through these times of utter upheaval have led me to have a lot of things to say about teamwork and leadership.

Mainly: if you surround yourself with people who share your goals, values and absolute drive to not accept things as they currently are  - leading won't be easy, but it will be rewarding.

A year ago, Women in Tech - Gothenburg consisted of 5 ambitious women volunteering their time and energy into creating educational community events. Now, our internal team is 35 women strong - and apart from events we also host initiatives such as:

  • A mentorship program with Wentors.

  • A community-creation collaboration with Chalmers University.

  • A full on Venture studio program currently supporting 4 female-founded tech startups and involving 30+ technical advisors.

  • A tech newsletter.

A good year for any company, and given that this is not a company and we’ve done all this with literally 0SEK in our bank account is freaking amazing. Add that it’s all been done during a global pandemic and it’s almost unbelievable.

So, now you might better understand my headline. These women do make me cry - of happiness and pride.
Each and every one of them spend whatever little precious time they have left between work and family responsibilities to work for a more fair and equal future tech industry. All of us are indebted to them.

So, to the selfless, remarkable ladies of Women in Tech - Gothenburg: from the bottom of my heart, thank you.
